I try to activate the SMTP extension but I get this notice: This extension is not activated/Email address is invalid
Regarding your activation issue with the module, first, please try filling a Gmail email to make sure your request is sent to our server.
The email is not required to be your Mageplaza account
If it does not work, you have to install the latest Core module from here as all of our products require an up-to-date Core to work correctly.
